What is the Village Innovation Pilot?
The Village Innovation Pilot is a strategic planning initiative that will work with two Borderlands towns who want to conserve critical lands by channelling new growth into existing or planned village centers. The Pilot intends to work with each town selected to:
1) Create the vision of what that kind of growth would look like,
2) Identify the actions and technical resources necessary to achieve the vision,
3) Provide focused technical expertise in a workshop setting, and
4) Help to implement changes at the appropriate scale to make the desired growth a reality.
Although the towns will go though the process separately, there will be opportunities for each to learn from the other as well as share their experience with the larger Borderlands region.
The Village Innovation Pilot is guided by a bi-state Advisory Group and staffed by a Pilot Coordinator.
The Pilot has received support from the Orton Family Foundation, Rhode Island Foundation, Northeast Utilities and other private donors. Development of the Pilot was funded in part by the Community Foundation of Southeastern Connecticut. We are still actively raising funds for the Pilot. Those interested in contributing to the Pilot can contact Susan Westa at susan.westa@uconn.edu.
